Jaws star Roy Scheider is facing his biggest battle so far after being told he has cancer.

The actor has had a successful bone-marrow transplant to treat cancer of the plasma cells.

'It went well, but I'll need rest,' said Scheider. 'I won't be bouncing around like I usually do this summer,' added the 72-year-old forever known for his epic battles with a great white shark in Steven Spielberg's 1975 movie.

His health problems have kept him away from the 30th anniversary of Jaws celebrations.
