It is tipped to be the celebrity wedding of the year, but there could be two notable absentees when Elizabeth Hurley finally ties the knot with Arun Nayar.

Liz's ex-boyfriend Hugh Grant - to whom the 42-year-old remains close - has told her he may not be able to make her eagerly awaited wedding in March even though he was rumoured to be best man.

The decision, I am told, is all down to the Notting Hill star's long-term girlfriend, heiress Jemima Khan, who has confided to friends that she would 'rather eat her left arm', than attend Liz's big day.

Jemima and Hurley have been arch-enemies ever since the Estee Lauder model was told that Jemima had criticised her. The acrimony became even more apparent when Elizabeth playfully sucked Grant's fingers at a party in front of his furious girlfriend.

Grant, who visits Hurley regularly at her Gloucestershire home, had desperately wanted to attend the wedding but his friends say he is in two minds over whether to go because he fears upsetting Jemima.

"Elizabeth and Jemima hate each other so there's no way Jemima would go," says a friend.

"Elizabeth has spent New Year in India making sure all the plans are in place. She'll be pretty miffed if Hugh doesn't come because they are still great friends but I'm sure she's mature enough to understand the situation."

"Hugh has said he may still go but the chances are it won't be worth the headache. Jemima has made it absolutely clear she does not want him to attend and Hugh will pretty much do anything to keep the peace."

A friend of Jemima tells me: "There's no love lost between Jemima and Elizabeth and the wedding is a sensitive subject."

Elizabeth and Arun will marry in Gloucestershire on March 3 before heading to India for a five-day celebration. Guests will include the Beckhams, Elton John and David Furnish, who are godfathers to her five-year-old son Damian.
