In Pride and Prejudice, he played the dastardly rogue who flirted outrageously with her before running off with her younger sister.

Thankfully, Keira Knightley appears to be faring far better off screen with her new boyfriend Rupert Friend, who played the treacherous Mr Wickham.

The couple, who started dating in December, were spotted kissing and cuddling as they took a romantic stroll along the beach in the Bahamas.

'Keira and Rupert only had eyes for each other,' said a holidaymaker. 'They were holding hands and looking wonderfully content. The setting could not have been any more romantic.

'At one point they stopped walking and just hugged for about five minutes, before turning around and gazing out to sea.'

Miss Knightley, 20, is in the Bahamas to film her latest movie, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

This is her first serious relationship since splitting up with her boyfriend of two years, Jamie Dornan. The couple separated in August but have remained in close contact.

Friend and Miss Knightley are said to have become chums when filming Pride And Prejudice but did not meet up romantically until her relationship with Dornan was officially over.
