She is famed for her flawless light-coloured complexion. But now Keira Knightley has gone beyond the pale... well beyond.

Filming the latest episode of Pirates of the Caribbean, her face appeared to take on a distinctly orange glow.

Perhaps the 21-year-old actress had just finished shooting a scene where she was stranded at sea with no cover from the sun when this photograph was taken.

Or maybe the make-up department was just having a little fun with her by caking on too much rouge. Either way, Miss Knightley definitely looked a brighter shade of pale as she

joined other cast members on a boat powering out to a set off the California coast.

The star has seen her popularity soar playing Elizabeth Swann alongside Johnny Depp in the series - and is now shooting the third.

When the second film, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, came out this summer, it earned more than any other movie in an opening weekend.

To date, it has taken £300million at box offices globally
