Two Australians - Cate Blanchett and Kylie Minogue - stole the show last night at the annual "Style Oscars".

The Elle Style Awards attracted the cream of Britain's singers, actors and designers.

But it was Blanchett, 35, who had one of the best nights, just three days after her Bafta win, by being named the Most Stylish Actress and Woman of the Year.

The Aviator star didn't disappoint when she turned up for the awards at London's trendy Spitalfields Market in a Christian Lacroix strapless black 1950s-style frock.

Pop singer Minogue, 36, famous for constantly revamping her look, won the Lifetime Achievement title, attending the awards in black patent heels and a Chanel black dress.

There was some consolation for British stars with Daniel Craig, Kate Moss's former boyfriend, winning the Elle Style Actor Award. Supermodel Helena Christensen picked up the Style Icon gong. TV presenter Cat Deeley, who turned up in an elegant white crochet dress, took Best Individual Style.

Little Britain's Matt Lucas and David Walliams were the surprise choice for Most Stylish TV Stars. The pair did not arrive last night in any of the more outlandish gear they wear on the hit comedy show.

Jamelia, 23, may have come away empty-handed at this month's Brit Awards, but the singer had more success tonight when she took the award for Most Stylish Female Music Star, wearing an Yves Saint Laurent suit jacket and Vivienne Worth skirt.

Singer Will Young, who wore a long grey coat and his trademark hat, was named Most Stylish Male Music Star, while rapper Estelle took the Levi's Pop Talent Award.

Other stars who attended included former EastEnder Tamzin Outhwaite in Emporio Armani, Coronation Street star Nikki Sanderson, Dannii Minogue, Rachel Hunter, Rachel Stevens in Tracey Boyd, and Louise Redknapp in Chloe.

A host of EastEnders stars also turned up, including Michelle Ryan in Diane von Furstenberg and Kacey Ainsworth in what she called "vintage Ma Mere, which means it was my mother's".
