Lewis Capaldi has responded to comparisons between himself and the new UK Prime Minister Liz Truss.

The 25-year-old has been compared in appearance to Ms Truss, 47, by some of his fans and it seems the Scottish singer is in agreement with the claims.

Yesterday, Capaldi reposted a photo of the new Prime Minister when she was younger from a fan who had tweeted beside it: “Congratulations @LewisCapaldi on becoming the next Prime minister #LizTruss."

The Scottish singer wrote in response: “Why do I look like so many female politicians." More than 140,000 people like the Tweet.

Truss was announced as the country’s next prime minister on Monday September 5 after Boris Johnson resigned from the position, beating Rishi Sunak in the race for the Conservative Party leadership.

After securing her victory, Truss said it was an “honour to be elected” and promised to “deliver a great victory” for her party in the next general election in her first speech given as Prime Minister.

Capaldi is a BRIT-award winning artist with a string of hits under his belt and is most-loved by his fans for his cheeky humour across social media and in appearance at events and award shows.

The Someone You Loved singer was embroiled in another comparison back in 2019, as Liam Gallagher likened him to Chewbacca from Star Wars after he was seen kissing his daughter Anais on the cheek in a photo.

This sparked an online feud between the two artists, however Capaldi brought humour to the row as he wore a Chewbacca mask whilst performing at the TRNSMT festival in Glasgow later that year.

The singer has returned with his latest single Forget Me, following a three-year hiatus, which is released on September 9.

Capaldi shared a video on Instagram which saw him play the song for the first time to a thrilled sold-out crowd at his concert show.

He captioned: “When you play your song for the first time ever, live, to 20,000 people. “Never been more nervous in my entire life…this is ‘forget me’ - out everywhere next Friday (September 9th) x.”
