For years, This Morning viewers woke up Fern Britton’s warm face – and the familiar sight of her cuddly body.

But now fans of the show would be forgiven for wondering if they’ve tuned into the right channel.

The 50-year-old’s astonishing transformation was more obvious than ever as she filmed a segment for the program outside the ITV studios in London yesterday in an elegant figure-hugging red dress.

Disappearing act: Fern Britton looked slimmer than ever outside the ITV studios in London yesterday; the star, pictured right in 2006, was a size 22 at her biggest

Her nipped-in waist, slender jaw line and lean limbs looked a far cry from her former size 22 self.

The mother-of-four, who is married to chef Phil Vickery, has steadily shed weight over the last six months, emerging nearly five stone lighter more glamorous than ever before.

Fern, who was reportedly concerned that at her biggest she was an unhealthy role model for other women, has quietly introduced a new fitness regime and eating plan, avoiding faddy diets in favour of a holistic approach.

Transformation: Fern says her weight loss is simply down to healthy eating and exercise

Fern's representative told MailOnline: "Fern is happy to say that her weight loss is a consequence of healthy diet and exercise."

The star has developed a love of cycling after training for a 250-mile charity ride, and now can clock up to 60 miles in a weekend.

Now she is in training for an intensive 370km charity bike ride in Cuba later this year.

She has said: "It's a great thing when you have a moment in your life which makes you think 'I'm gonna change'. I was coming up to 50 and I thought 'I'm going to change'.

"It's possible. But in your head you've got to get to the right space. Once you're there you can do that."
