Actress Lindsay Lohan, who was taken to hospital on New Year's Day after a suspected asthma attack, has confessed to using drugs and being bulimic.

The Herbie: Fully Loaded star made the explosive statements in an interview with Vanity Fair magazine.

But yesterday there were further questions about her condition after friends were seen carrying a pregnancy testing kit into the Miami hospital where she has been recuperating.

Lohan, 19, was taken to Mount Sinai medical centre, on Miami's South Beach, Florida, after a night out.

She had been seeing in the New Year at Prive nightclub in the city. But she left in the early hours, complaining of shortness of breath and dizziness.

'She could barely talk and was rushed straight to the emergency unit,' said a witness. 'She looked to be in a pretty bad way.'

A spokeswoman for the star said last night she was 'resting comfortably' and expected to be released soon.

In the Vanity Fair interview, Lohan blames her emotionally-stressful upbringing, the cut-throat world of Hollywood and her breakup with former boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama for her long-running troubles.
