Louis Walsh is "devastated" about "unfounded" allegations he sexually assaulted a man.

The 'X Factor' judge - who is accused of molesting a 24-year-old dad by groping his groin area after they met in a Dublin bar in April - insists his alleged victim is a "chancer" who is out to make money from the scandal.

He told the Daily Mirror: "I'm devastated by the completely unfounded and malicious allegations. Anyone who knows me knows this is all a pack of lies. It's hurtful someone can do this and think they can get away with it.

"This guy is a complete chancer and talking a load of utter rubbish, just trying to make a quick buck for himself, I guess. I don't even know who this guy is, just that he's a sick, nasty person trying to destroy my good name.

"When I found out, I was stunned and it really was the worst night of my life. I haven't slept at all. But I'm keeping my head up and staying proud - I have done absolutely nothing wrong and this will become clear."

Louis - who has not yet formally been contacted by police about the allegations - has been receiving support from his showbiz friends, including Sharon Osbourne, Sir Elton John and Simon Cowell.

He told the Daily Star: "Simon called me he was brilliant. Sharon was on and Cheryl Cole called me. Elton called and offered me any support I needed."

Speaking in support of Louis, 58, Simon vowed to back him "100 per cent".

He told The Sun: "I don't believe for a second these allegations are true. I have known Louis Walsh for 20 years and I don't believe for a second that these allegations are true. I feel very sorry for him. I've spoken to him today and he is really upset. It's horrible.

"Like all of his close friends I will support him 100 per cent."
