Singer Courtney Love's claims to be carrying Steve Coogan's baby are "nonsense", his spokeswoman said today.

The showbiz world has been left stunned by reports that the wild woman of rock is pregnant by the Alan Partridge star after a two-week fling.

But Coogan's spokeswoman scoffed at the claims today and insisted: "It's nonsense."

Drug addict Love, 41, the widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, is said to have enjoyed an affair with Coogan while they were both staying at the Sunset Marquis hotel in West Hollywood.

She told the News of the World: "Yes, I am pregnant with Steve's baby, but I'd rather not talk about our friendship."
