Mel C today revealed she had to be rescued by security when hundreds of fans mobbed her dressing room after an intimate gig in Shoreditch.

The former Spice Girl needed the help of bouncers after performing her new single Cool As You, a duet with newcomer Peter Aristone, in front of fans at the Queen of Hoxton.

Afterwards, several hundred waited for the 40-year-old singer outside the dressing room shouting: “We want Mel!”

She said: “The gig was packed and it’s only a small venue, so afterwards I struggled to get out of the dressing room. The venue’s security had to help me out otherwise I think we’d still be there now.

“There were hundreds of fans in a very small venue so it was much safer to sign autographs and pose for pictures outside.

“It was amazing to play such an intimate venue and the audience were just a couple of feet away from the stage. I literally had to push through the crowd to get on the stage.”

She added: “It was an amazing gig and the atmosphere was electric. I was so chuffed that so many of my fans turned up to see me play but I might have to pick a bigger venue in future.”

The single is due for release on March 31.
