Nicole Kidman was taken to hospital after a car she was filming in smashed into a lamp-post. She was at the wheel of a Jaguar swarming with stuntmen as zombie aliens when the 45mph crash happened.

The car, being towed by a camera truck, was sent spinning off the road as the stunt driver took a corner quickly. Seven other people were taken to hospital.

Two were treated for minor injuries while Kidman, 39, injured her leg. She was not seriously hurt.

Footage of the accident has appeared on the internet. As Kidman films the scene, trying to shake the zombies off her car, it shows the Jaguar slamming into a lamp-post on West Sixth Street in Los Angeles.

The sound of tyres screeching, glass shattering and metal crunching can clearly be heard and Kidman is seen getting out of the car, looking dazed.

The alien horror film, called The Invasion, co-stars Daniel Craig and child actor Jackson Bond. Early reports suggested Jackson was also in the accident, but his publicists denied this.

Insiders said that after the accident on Wednesday Kidman was back on set that night.
