Nicki Minaj’s husband has been sentenced to a year of home detention after he failed to register as a sex offender when the couple moved to California.

Kenneth Petty, 44, was also ordered to pay a fine of 55,000 dollars (£46,000) for the offence, according to the US Attorney’s Office.

Mr Petty pleaded guilty to the offence in September last year.

The music industry professional – who goes by the nickname Zoo – was convicted of attempted rape in New York in 1995 and served four years in prison.

He is considered a level-two offender in the state of New York, which equates to him being considered a “moderate risk of repeat offence”.

He and the Superbass hit-maker moved to California in 2019, but he did not register as as a sex offender within the required period of five days.

Petty was originally looking at a jail term of 10 years with a lifetime of supervised release.

Prosecutors previously urged the judge to sentence him to further prison time, arguing that house arrest in his multi-million Dollar mansion in Calabasas was not a severe enough punishment.

Petty and Minaj – real name Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty – started dating in 2018 and married a year later. They have a two-year-old son together.

In August 2021, the pair were sued by the woman he was convicted of attempting to rape.

She claimed that both Minaj and Petty tried to coerce her into taking back her claims, and they even offered her $500,000 to do so.

She also accused them of inflicting emotional distress, though she voluntarily dropped the lawsuit against Minaj.

“The case against Nicki was voluntarily dismissed. The case against Kenneth Petty is still ongoing. Stay tuned!” her lawyer said.
