There were mini cheeseburgers for appetisers and Nike shoelaces as thank you gifts. The ceremony was in the suburbs and guests had to pay for their own drinks.

When Britney Spears tied the knot for the second time at the weekend, it was hardly the ' fairytale wedding' she claimed she was planning just last week.

The 22-year-old singer married Kevin Federline, 26, in the back garden of a suburban house in Studio City, near Santa Monica, California.

Her spokesman David Frossman said last night: 'I can confirm that Britney did get married to Kevin Federline yesterday. All is well.'

An insider added: 'All the guests received invites last week to say it was going to take place next week.

'Then on Friday they got another invite by phone saying it was tomorrow.

'There were only about 15 people at the wedding and they weren't allowed to take pictures, and all of them even had to sign an affidavit to agree that they wouldn't.

'They had mini cheeseburgers as appetisers and chicken strips which tasted like fish sticks. The guests were saying it was the worst.'

Each guest received a Gap gift bag containing a pair of jeans, a packet of sweets, a pair of Nike shoe laces and a silver teardrop key ring featuring an image of the couple cuddling.

Guests were reportedly forced to pay for their own drinks and wore tracksuits to the after party.

The couple left their joint hen and stag do - at a hotel in Santa Monica, California - until the night before. They partied with 20 friends until midnight and fatheroftwo Federline was seen leaving at 8am the next day, to avoid seeing his bride-to-be.

Spears wed for the first time in Las Vegas in January. But her marriage to high-school sweetheart Jason Alexander lasted only 55 hours before being annulled.
