Hollywood's glitterati were out in force to see Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby sweep the board at the 77th Academy Awards ceremony with a total of four Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director.

The emotional drama, which follows a female prize-fighter from triumph to tragedy, also earned Hilary Swank the award for Best Actress prize and Morgan Freeman Best Supporting Actor.

Jamie Foxx won Best Actor for his title role in Ray, making it only the second time in Oscar history that black actors won two of the four acting honours.

Martin Scorsese's The Aviator won five Oscars.
