Owen Wilson’s fans have regularly questioned why the actor frequently says “wow” in his films and have finally got their answer.

The 54-year-old actor has finally explained that his spouting the word repeatedly since his debut film, 1996’s Bottle Rocket, is actually an ode to his “committed” fanbase.

In a video by his YouTube fan channel, Owenergy, when the actor was asked if there are certain sayings he “tries to incorporate into movies”, he replied: “Well, yes, but they’re for my really committed fans.

“I throw out a little word, just sort of like a little wink and a nod to them.

"It’s like those New Yorker [magazine] covers, that the guy would write his wife’s name into the illustration.

He continued with a cheeky grin: “If you’re lucky enough to be one of those really committed fans, then I give you these little clues that are out there.”

Website Screenrant has documented that the Marry Me star has said “wow” in a staggering 27 films.

They also revealed that the star’s use of the word has been in 51.9 percent of all his films and he has used it most in Midnight in Paris 2011, where it appears seven times.

“Ever since Wilson said ‘wow’ in his feature film debut in 1996’s Bottle Rocket, he has gone on to say the word in 27 different movies,” said the article’s writer, Cooper Hood.

”This frequency highlights why Wilson is so closely associated with the word, but it becomes even more obvious when the astonishing amount of times he’s said ‘wow’ is factored in.

“In these 27 movies, Wilson says ‘wow’ a total of 81 times. 2011’s Midnight in Paris holds the record for the highest number of ‘wow’s in a single Wilson movie, as he utters it seven times.”

Fans have loved him saying wow so much, they once organised an event where a large group of them got together to say wow in unison.
