This is the fourth in the Ben Uri Gallery's ongoing series, The Whitechapel Boys, profiling the work of artists who hailed from London's Jewish East End.

More than 50 works explore Alfred Wolmark's range in all its variety, from his earliest religious paintings, full of compassion and Rembrandtesque in execution, to his luscious colourist canvases.

This latter style dates from his honeymoon in Brittany in 1911, and captivated him throughout the Twenties.

Supplementing his paintings will be examples of his ceramics, illustrations and poster designs, along with two portraits of the modernist sculptor Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, and Gaudier-Brzeska's own bust of Wolmark.

Sun 5 Sep-Sun 7 Nov, Ben Uri Gallery, 108A Boundary Road, NW8 (020-7604 3991).
