He may have spent hours in front of the cameras but Ricky Gervais has admitted feeling nervous while recording his voice for The Simpsons.

The Office funnyman was invited to write an episode of the hit cartoon by the show's creator Matt Groening. His script sees him star as a character called Charles who ends up falling in love with Homer's wife Marge.

But the comic admitted doing the voiceover with his cartoon heroes, especially Dan Castellaneta who plays Homer, made him break out in a cold sweat.

'I just stood there thinking, "What the f**k am I doing here with Homer?". I thought, "Here I am, working on my absolute favourite comedy show of all time, with my stupid little voice",' he said.

'I was incredibly worried that my voice would be too puny.' Fans can see the Gervais episode of The Simpsons on Sky One on Sunday.
