Rod Stewart has become a father again at the age of 60.

The rock star announced yesterday his fiancÈe, Penny Lancaster, had given birth to a boy early on Sunday at the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth in London.

The baby, their first child together, weighed 7lb 7oz.

Stewart paid tribute to the model's 'commitment, courage and strength' during the birth.

'Both Penny and our baby son are gorgeous and doing well,' he added in a statement.

Lancaster, a 34-year-old model and photographer, said the birth 'was the most empowering and spiritual experience of my life'.

The baby, which was due in early December, was born naturally - something her fiancè had been very keen on, she added. The family are now back home in Epping. Stewart has five children by other partners.
