Pop sensation and former Boyzone star Ronan Keating was facing an anxious wait yesterday after being taken to hospital with a mysterious illness.

The singer was rushed to hospital in Dublin Monday morning for extensive tests after he suffered an allergic reaction. He was due to be kept in for a number of days.

But doctors are struggling to find out what has struck the star down as wife Yvonne and children Jack, 5, and one-year-old Marie flew to be by his bedside.

Keating's spokeswoman Lyndsay Holmes said it was unlikely he would be out soon, and that television appearances for Thursday had been cancelled.

"He is still in hospital and looks like he will be in for a few days. We have had to cancel a few of his appearances," she said.

"He was undergoing tests and was on a drip. We don't know what was wrong but we think it is some sort of allergic reaction to something.

"He has never had anything like this before, not to my knowledge anyway."

The illness has sparked new health fears for the star after he collapsed during
a concert only three months ago.

The solo singer had flown in from Portugal to form a golfing partnership with Darren Clarke at the K Club in County Kildare, and to compete against sporting
legends such as Ken Doherty, Nick Faldo and Gary Lineker.

He was due to play a pro-celeb charity golf match to raise funds for the Marie Keating Foundation, set up after his mother died of breast cancer in 1998, but failed to show.

He had complained of feeling unwell before leaving the Algarve but decided to travel after visiting a doctor. On Monday morning he was rushed to hospital.
Keating's wife and children flew in from their home in southern Portugal to be by his side.

Sister Linda and brother Gary decided to go ahead with the charity match, now in its fifth year, to raise funds for cancer awareness.

The celebs had hoped to raise as much as 100,000 euro (£70,000) for the cancer charity.
