Rowing is enjoying a huge surge in popularity, thanks in no small part to Sir Steve Redgrave & Co claiming a magnificent fifth gold medal for Britain in Sydney two years ago.

But you don't need to be at the oars yourself to take part in the sport. On Saturday, head down to Buccleuch Gardens in Richmond, south west London, to watch entrants to the Twickenham Regatta 2002 cross the finishing line.

Widely regarded as one of the prettiest streches of the Thames in London, the course follows the river as it bends around from Twickenham to Richmond in the shadow of Star and Garter Hill.

There will be a barbecue and a beer tent and admission is free. Kids are welcome so - weather permitting - it should be a great day out for all.

The Twickenham Regatta 2002, Buccleuch Gardens, Richmond, Surrey, 9am - 7pm. For more information, call 01483 761 461 or visit MORE INFO
