Past X Factor winner Shayne Ward has landed a role in a West End musical.

The singer - who triumphed in 2005, going on to top the charts with That's My Goal - will appear in forthcoming show Rock Of Ages.

The production, made of Eighties rock anthems and already a hit in the US, is being turned into a movie starring Catherine Zeta Jones, Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin.

Ward will play the character Stacee Jaxx, a "disillusioned rock bad boy", who is being portrayed by Tom Cruise in the film version.

Previews for the show - also featuring Justin Lee Collins - begin in late August at London's Shaftesbury Theatre.

Ward's casting comes as another X Factor winner, 2009's victor Joe McElderry, takes part in ITV1 series Popstar To Operastar.
