Spotify Wrapped 2018: The most-streamed music this year was almost ALL by men

Spotify’s most streamed tracks and albums of 2018 were dominated by male artists, with Drake topping the lists.

The Canadian rapper, 32, is the world’s most-streamed artist, amassing more than 8.2 billion streams this year. He is now officially the service’s most streamed artist of all time.

His album Scorpion, which was released in June, was the most-streamed album, while track God’s Plan was the most-listened to, bringing in more than 1 billion streams.

The late XXXTENTACION’s X hit SAD! was the second most streamed, while Post Malone also scored two songs on the list with Rockstar (feat. 21 Savage) and Psycho (feat. Ty Dolla $ign). Drake rounded off the top five with In My Feelings.

Dua Lipa was the only female artist to make it into the top five most streamed albums with her self-titled debut. Other names included XXXTENTACION, Post Malone and Ed Sheeran who scored the top album of 2017 with ÷ (Divide).

The most streamed groups were also made up of all-male members with Imagine Dragons taking the top spot followed by K-pop group BTS, Maroon 5, Migos and Coldplay.

Ariana Grande was the most-listened to female artist of 2018 and was streamed more than 3 billion times. Dua Lipa took second place followed by US rapper Cardi B, Taylor Swift and former Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello.

Grande sent fans into a frenzy last week after finally dropping the video for new single Thank U, Next which amassed over 200 million streams.

The video, which gives a nod to hit teen films including Mean Girls, Bring it On and Legally Blonde, smashed YouTube records, racking up 829,000 views in 24 hours before going on to clock up over 88 million in one weekend.

Spotify revealed information on the most streamed music as part of Spotify Wrapped which gives users a personalised breakdown of their listening history.
