Simon Pegg attended the UK premiere of Star Trek, declaring it was a "geek dream come true".

Pegg, who donned a kilt for the night, is one of the stars of the movie, which features a young new crew.

A blue carpet, smoke machines and fans wearing Spock ears added to the space-like effect of the event which took place in London's Leicester Square.

Pegg said that the weight of the past was on the new characters a little but insisted he had played his own version of his role.

He added: "I love the Star Trek fan base. They are world leaders in positivity."

Also in attendance was actor Karl Urban who described the film as "phenomenal".

He said: "This is a film for everybody, not just long-term Trek fans."

The premiere, attended by celebrities including Jonathan Ross, who donned a black leather jacket and sunglasses, took place in aid of the Prince's Trust.
