Take That will no longer go head-to-head with JLS in a chart battle - after the reformed group announced today they have changed their release date.

The band's Progress album had been set to hit the shelves on November 22, the same day as their young chart rivals.

But Take That said during a live appearance on Radio 1 today that their eagerly-awaited collection would instead come out a week earlier.

They have also brought forward the release of single The Flood, which will now come out on November 7 which also avoids a clash with the boy band.

The group's Gary Barlow said they had been analysing airplay and order data before reaching their decision.

"We've actually never seen one of our singles be played so much so we're actually pulling all our release dates forwards," he said.

"We're able to see the pre-orders now on albums and it's massive, so we thought let's pull everything forward."

The band admitted there was a wave of younger bands hoping to emulate their success and win fans' affections.

Barlow told breakfast show presenter Mills: "Listen there's no question about it, we're here to be replaced aren't we? There's always a faster younger better model."

Red-faced Take That star Mark Owen told how he had spent 24 hours thinking his car had been stolen - only to realise he had simply forgotten where he parked it.

The singer - who has announced a string of stadium and arena shows called Progress Live, with Robbie Williams back in the group line-up - said he spent yesterday thinking the vehicle had been swiped.

But Owen owned up to just misplacing it.

"I just left it at some friend's house. We were speaking to the friend and said we lost it - and they never said it's on our drive!"

He and the group also talked about the tour dates, which were announced at a press conference at London's Savoy Hotel.

The band said they may add further shows to the 14 UK dates which have so far been announced for next year.

Williams said: "See what happens. If demand is there I'm sure we can wrangle something."

The last time the five-piece played live together was in 1995.

UK tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday.
