Terry Wogan joked that he left Radio 2 "at the wrong time" after his breakfast show replacement Chris Evans posted record listening figures.

Radio veteran: Terry Wogan may have left at the wrong time

Evans achieved 9.53 million listeners a week, beating his predecessor by 1.5 million. Wogan said: "Chris Evans has come in and added to the listeners. I don't know where they've come from, I obviously left at the wrong time."

On Radio 1, the Chris Moyles Show had 7.88 million listeners in the latest quarter, up from the previous high of 7.7 million. Under-threat BBC 6 Music reported a phenomenal jump in audience figures, climbing over the million mark from last year's 681,000.

In London, Magic 105.4 regained its crown as the biggest commercial station in the capital, jumping ahead of Heart 106.2 and 95.8 Capital FM with an audience rise of 10.1 per cent to two million.
