Former Baywatch star David Hasselhoff could step in as a judge for the next series of Britain's Got Talent, it has been reported.

The Hoff - a regular visitor to the UK who is soon to appear in a London panto - has previously been on the US version of the show.

The Sun claimed he has been approached to replace Simon Cowell as a judge on the show for next year's run.

Show boss Cowell will soon be busy with the US version of his other talent search The X Factor, due to launch next year.

Hasselhoff quit America's Got Talent earlier this year and has had a well-publicised battle with drink problems.

The actor - a cult star for his appearances in TV series Knight Rider and as lifeguard Mitch Buchannon in worldwide hit Baywatch - will appear in panto as Captain Hook in the New Wimbledon Theatre's Peter Pan this month.
