Her arrival sees patients temperatures rising and tongues wagging in the village.

Locals are soon wondering who the father of her child is, and about the closeness of her relationship with next door neighbour Danny.

The former Big Breakfast host, who recently split with her boyfriend, nightclub owner Richard Traviss, said: "I'm thrilled to be given the chance to become part of this much loved show.

"Kim is a great character and judging by the story lines I've seen so far I know I'm going to have a lot of fun with her. I can't wait to start filming."

Executive Producer Damien Timmer said: "We're very excited to have Denise join Where the Heart Is after the massive success she's had in the last few years in the West End and on Broadway.

"She's one of this country's brightest stars and a brilliant actress."
