Vaughn quits blockbuster 'for family'
Film director Matthew Vaughn has quit Hollywood blockbuster X-Men 3 because he doesn't want to be apart from wife Claudia Schiffer and their two young children
Vaughn stepped down only two months before filming was due to start.
X-Men 3 was set to be his first big budget Hollywood movie.
The 34-year-old made his directorial debut last year with acclaimed gangster film Layer Cake and produced Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
Vaughn quit because he did not want to travel between the film's locations in Vancouver, Canada, the studio in Los Angeles and his London home.
He and Schiffer have two children - Caspar, two, and six-month-old Clementine.
A spokesman for movie studio 20th Century Fox said: "As the shooting evolved, he realised he would have to move to Los Angeles and Vancouver for at least a year.
"Not wishing to uproot his family for an extended period, Vaughn opted to depart the production.
"We understand Matthew's reasons for leaving, as nothing is more important than family."
X-Men 3 is based on the Marvel superhero characters and reunites Sir Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman.Former football star Vinnie Jones also has a role as bad guy Juggernaut.
Vaughn's decision follows Kate Winslet's announcement last year that she was pulling out of Woody Allen film Match Point to spend more time with husband Sam Mendes and their two young children. She was replaced by Scarlett Johansson.
