Actor Dennis Waterman has branded presenters Ant and Dec "millionaire idiots" in a rant about the state of British TV.

The Geordie duo may be two of the nation's best-loved stars, but Waterman
cannot stand them.

"Adults don't want to see millionaire idiots like Ant and Dec every time
you turn on the telly," he told the TV Times.

"We're overcrowded with reality stuff and soaped up to the eyeballs. I don't want to watch reality TV. You see these people become stars and earn thousands. You think, 'Has the world gone crackers?"'

It is not the first time the former star of Minder and The Sweeney has complained about the quality of British TV shows.

His views on soaps were widely publicised last year when he said that his
daughter Hannah, who plays Laura Beale in EastEnders, was too good for the show.

Waterman, 56, is currently starring in new BBC1 police drama New Tricks,
alongside his former lover Amanda Redman.

Hannah leaves Albert Square for good next week when she is written out of the soap in dramatic style.
