The fight between Unilever and Gordon Ramsay is one of many corporate clashes to protect trademarks:

  • McDonald's demanded that the owner of a sandwich bar called McMunchies in Buckinghamshire change the name of her business. But McMunchies owner Mary Blair, of Fenny Stratford, said that any customers entering her bar looking for a Happy Meal would soon discover their mistake.
  • Furniture sellers Harrods (of Hemswell, Scunthorpe) agreed to change their green logo after a challenge from namesake Harrods (of Knightsbridge).
  • Victoria Beckham tried to block Peterborough United from registering its nickname The Posh - written across the seats of its South Stand and on replica shirts. Posh Spice eventually relented.
  • The Beatles' record label Apple Corps and Apple computers have been fighting for 24 years, most recently over the latter's iTunes online music store.
