The dad of X Factor finalist Jermaine Sanderson has been in jail for manslaughter, a newspaper has revealed.

Jermaine, 23, is part of the band 4Sure who have reached the finals after their impressive soulful performances.

But The Sun has revealed Jermaine's father Eric - the brother of Olympic star Tessa Sanderson - served 18 months for causing the death of council worker.

Eric was a bouncer at Chicago Rock Cafe club in Wolverhampton in 1998 when he punched Martin Leaver, 36, in the face. The married dad of one fell and hit his head on the pavement, dying 24 hours later in hospital, according to The Sun. Mr Sanderson was convicted on manslaughter.

Jermaine was brought up by his mother Janet after his parents divorced. The youngster works at a day centre for people with learning disabilities and hopes to make it big so he can help Janet who has kidney disease.

"If I made enough money and got far enough, it would mean my mum would never have to work again," Jermaine said.

"She's got lupus, a kidney disease. In the past I've offered to give her my kidney but she refuses. I'd love to get her out of that situation so winning would mean so much to me."

Jermaine sings alongside Donovan Bailey, 38, who put the band together, Kriss Jones, 24, and Andrew Fisher, 30.

"There's a big gap in the market for a really good boy band - one with some cool harmonies and some good-looking guys," Andrew, a social worker and father-of-two said.
