X Factor star Rhydian Roberts has denied he is a traitor to his ginger roots now that he sports his distinctive bleached blonde look.

But here is the proof that just a few years back - things were a lot different.

The X Factor sensation started off as a curly redhead, but now his peroxide blonde look, and his powerful voice have won him a legion of fans.

An old schoolfriend said: "He was teased a lot because of his ginger looks, but he is a great bloke."

However, despite the childhood teasing, Rhydian said: "It's nice to have a little bit of ginger. If I need it - if they bring ginger back in fashion then I've got a little bit", he added.

"I'm not betraying my ginger roots. Over the years my hair has changed colour, I want to say thankfully, but actually ginger's good."

Now the 24-year-old may have the last laugh - as he has emerged the red-hot favourite to win the talent show.
