Aaron Ramsey is ‘gutted’ to be leaving Arsenal according to Gunners great Ray Parlour, after the midfield said an emotional farewell to supporters on Sunday.

Ramsey – who will join Juventus this summer on a free transfer - was in the stands for Arsenal’s final home game of the season and was presented to fans following the game at the Emirates Stadium.

The Wales international shed a tear as fans bellowed ‘we want you to stay’ from the terraces, and former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour says that Ramsey did not want to leave the club.

“He is gutted that he is leaving,” said Parlour on talkSPORT. “We can talk about the financial [side of it], whatever his representatives wanted, but he loved the club, he really did.

“He’s been there over ten years and it’s heart-breaking to see someone who really wants to play for the club leave.”

“I would have tried to do everything I could within my powers to keep him, financially, but they didn’t want to go down the same road they did with Mesut Ozil and giving those big contracts out again. But you can look at it and say he’s probably a more important player than Mesut Ozil at the moment.”

Ramsey will not feature again for Arsenal this season after suffering a hamstring injury against Napoli in the Europa League.
