Ace Kirsten puts South Africa top

13 April 2012

South Africa beat New Zealand by 26 runs in the third one-day international of the VB series at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart today.

The Proteas made 257 for seven in their 50 overs after winning the toss and batting, with man-of-the-match, opener Gary Kirsten, leading the way with 97.

New Zealand were always in contention after skipper Stephen Fleming hit a superb 86 but lost wickets at crucial times as they slumped to 231 for nine - Allan Donald taking three for 40.

"In any chase you get your turning points and we had a couple that probably turned the match," Fleming said.

The win puts South Africa on top of the table, both sides having already beaten Australia in their opening matches.

Australia play New Zealand in Sydney on Thursday in the fourth match of the triangular series.
