Agassi masters Hewitt

14 April 2012

Andre Agassi proved he is still capable of defeating the best players in the world as he claimed the Masters Series event in Cincinnati with a threeset win over Australian Lleyton Hewitt.

Agassi, seeded 11th, beat Hewitt 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 after defeating Andy Roddick in the semi-final and will now be among the favourites for the US Open later this month.

The 34-year-old's triumph was his 59th career title and made him the oldest winner on the ATP tour since a 37-year-old Jimmy Connors won in Toulouse in 1989.

Meanwhile, Argentina's French Open champion Gaston Gaudio has been forced to withdraw from the Olympic Games tennis tournament in Athens due to a heel injury.
