Allardyce joins queue for Shorey

Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce has joined the growing lost of managers in the hunt for Reading defender Nicky Shorey.

The Magpies are desperate for a left-back and £5m-rated Shorey is a top target after Allardyce cooled his interest in Wigan's Leighton Baines. Shorey, 26, won his first England cap against Brazil this month, and Reading are keen to keep hold of him.

West ham are also believed to be interested in the former Leyton Orient player but new Newcastle owner Mike Ashley might have the funds to tempt Shorey to the north-east.
