Alonso eager to impress

12 April 2012

Fernando Alonso has vowed to push himself to the limit in a bid to become a three-time Formula One world champion.

After winning back-to-back titles with Renault in the last two years, Alonso begins a new chapter in his career next season with McLaren.

McLaren failed to win a grand prix in 2006 and Alonso is certainly aiming to turn around the team's fortunes as he said: "As with any team there will be a period of adaptation. But I will be racing at my maximum, like always, to try and win."

He added: "They are a very strong team, with many resources.

"They did not have a good season this year, but we will work hard so that I can be at 100% in 2007."

At the age of 25, Alonso heads into the new season as the youngest double world champion in the history of the sport, a feat he hails as "incredible!"

"At first, just like last year, I was numb and I couldn't really understand properly what was happening," added Alonso.

"But with every day that goes by, I am a little prouder of what I have achieved with the Renault team.

"As the years go on, I am sure it will grow a little more. To win the world championship is the ultimate in my sport - a fantastic feeling."
