Amey's bad break

13 April 2012

Triathlete Paul Amey is out of Britain's Olympics team after breaking his pelvis in a crash in Italy last week.

'I'm crushed and very sad,' said the 31-year-old. 'We were just cruising down this hill rather slowly when my front wheel skipped over a small rock. It spun my handlebars and I just slammed to the ground.

'Aside from a few scratches I look fine and so does my bike. I just came down so hard on my hip.' Amey's agent Scott Fairchild said initially Amey had no idea how hurt he was.

'Paul actually felt okay,' said Fairchild. 'He even rode home and it was only the following day, when Paul had a scan at a local clinic, that he was taken to hospital.'

Amey also missed out on the 2000 Olympics with a stress fracture.
