Andy Murray blitzes Andy Roddick as he hits 18-mark

13 April 2012

Andy Murray today brushed aside Andy Roddick 6-2, 6-2 to move into the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters and extend his winning streak to 18 matches.

The Briton will now face either Czech Tomas Berdych or Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic as he bids to reach the last four in the tournament for the first time.

Murray broke his American opponent in the opening game and despite receiving treatment on his hamstring during the first change‑over, the world No3 broke Roddick again in the seventh game before serving out the set.

In the second set, Roddick dropped his serve twice in succession, to trail 3-0, and then smashed his racket in frustration, receiving a code violation.

After his victory, Murray played down injury fears and said: "Everyone has niggles at this stage of the year and you just need to make sure you aren't doing long‑term damage."
