Annacone eyes key LTA job

14 April 2012

Tim Henman's coach Paul Annacone has claimed he is "one of the top candidates for one of the key positions" in British tennis.

The 43-year-old New Yorker could be about to join fellow American Brad Gilbert, coach of Andy Murray, in working for the Lawn Tennis Association as head of men's tennis.

Henman's former coach David Felgate left the position, which previously held the title of performance director, after Roger Draper was appointed chief executive of the LTA in April.

In comments reported by The Times, Annacone said: "I'm happy to say that we have had a number of discussions both before and since the US Open and the possibility is there (of a job offer), but there are still a lot of conversations to be had.

"I'm aware of what Roger Draper is trying to do, the blueprint for his organisational restructure and what his goals are. The possibilities are very exciting. Who knows where the pieces of the puzzle will fall?"

Annacone, who has worked with Henman since December 2003, stressed: "My relationship and friendship with Tim is paramount. He is very supportive of all that is going on."

The American is believed to face competition for the post from Peter Lundgren, the Swede who was coach to Great Britain's Davis Cup team in Ukraine last month.

It is also reported that Belgian Carl Maes is poised to become head of British women's tennis.
