British No1 Anne Keothavong hopes for an easier ride today after she warmed up for her first singles match of the clay court season by edging a tight doubles affair.

Keothavong and Hungarian Melinda Czink reached the second round at the WTA event in Fes, Morocco with a 6-0, 3-6, 10-6 win over home pair Lina Bennani and Nadia Lalami.

After sealing victory on a match tiebreak, Keothavong said: "We made a meal of it after the first set but a win is a win."

Today she takes on Maret Ani in the singles and although Keothavong is 56 places higher up the rankings than the Estonian, she said: "Maret is a tough opponent on clay."
