Anxious Armstrong just glad to be back

13 April 2012

Lance Armstrong returned to competitive cycling by finishing 64th in the prologue for the Tour Down Under in Adelaide.

More than 130,000 people turned out yesterday to watch the 37-year-old ride in his first race since 2005. He said: "There was a lot of anxiety. It's good the first day is over and now I can get into the racing."

Armstrong, who recovered from testicular cancer to win the Tour de France seven times, quit in 2005 but has returned to promote awareness of the disease.

The first stage of the Tour Down Under is tomorrow's 145km ride from Norwood to Mawson Lakes.
