13 April 2012

Sea The Stars won the Horse of the Year title at the 2009 Cartier Racing Awards at Claridge's Hotel in London last night.

The John-Oxx trained colt was retired after winning the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe last month and landing five other Group 1s, including the Derby, 2,000 Guineas and Irish Champion Stakes. He was also named three-year-old colt of the year while his trainer took the Cartier/Daily Telegraph Ward of Merit.

Breeders' Cup mile winner Goldikova won the older horse award, while St Nicholas Abbey and Yeats were given the two-year-old colt and stayers' awards respectively.
