Arsene relies on Grimandi

Steve Stammers13 April 2012

Arsene Wenger will tonight make use of the least publicised member of his French contingent to solve a defensive crisis.

The Arsenal manager has drafted Gilles Grimandi into the team to face Germany?s Schalke 04 in the Champions League at High bury as part of a makeshift back four that will also include Dutch midfielder Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Wenger is deprived of Tony Adams, Sol Campbell, Lee Dixon and Oleg Luzhny through injury and England left-back Ashley Cole who is serving a one-match ban.

He will partner England defender Martin Keown with Grimandi, who he once described as one of his ?best-ever signings? following his arrival on a free transfer from Monaco with £5 million Emmanuel Petit in 1997.
