Arteta joins Everton in loan deal

14 April 2012

Everton have clinched the signing of Mikel Arteta on loan from Real Sociedad with a view to a permanent deal.

The 22-year-old former Rangers midfielder flew into England over the weekend to undergo a medical and after talks with Blues officials has agreed a deal.

Arteta, who left Ibrox last summer, made 15 appearances for Real Sociedad scoring one goal.

Everton chief executive Keith Wyness told the club's website www.evertonfc.com: "We are delighted that Mikel has agreed to join us and this is a real coup for Everton as there were a number of other clubs interested.

"David Moyes, Bill Kenwright and myself have been working behind the scenes on a daily basis attempting to strengthen the squad and the signing of Mikel, who is one of the best young prospects in Spain, is hopefully testament to that."

Hot on the heels of Arteta's arrival, Everton confirmed they have been in talks with Tottenham about the possibility of signing Simon Davies.

Wyness told evertonfc.com: "We have been in discussions with Tottenham over the weekend but no conclusion has been reached."

The 25-year-old Wales international returned to first-team action in Saturday's FA Cup draw with West Brom after recovering from a viral infection that had sidelined him since November.
