Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has insisted he is not interested in deserting the Toon Army so he can buy Tottenham.

Magpies chairman Chris Mort maintains Ashley is happy at St James' Park and is on Tyneside for the long haul.

The London club were the subject of extravagant buyout rumours last week but Mort said: "Mike has absolutely no interest in going and buying Spurs.

"I know where those rumours come from - Paul Kemsley (Tottenham's former vice-chairman) is a very good mate of Mike's. But it's just not true that Mike is looking to sell Newcastle. End of story."
