Asprilla denies drug trafficking

13 April 2012

Faustino Asprilla, the former Colombia striker, has denied ever being involved in drug trafficking during his time with Newcastle.

Asprilla was dragged into the allegations after his friend Osmiro Colonia Mendez, 38, stood trial accused of plotting to import drugs to the north-east.

Colonia was found not guilty at Newcastle Crown Court yesterday.

Asprilla said: "I've never been involved in anything like that. I went to Newcastle to play football."

Meanwhile, Newcastle misfit Albert Luque will get a chance to revive his St James' Park career.
