Audley: Williams makes me look good

David Smith13 April 2012

Audley Harrison has taken heart from the poor display returned by London rival Danny Williams in retaining the British and Commonwealth heavyweight championships.

"If that is the best in Britain, then I'm in good shape," said the Olympic gold medallist after Williams tarnished his claims to a World Championship challenge with an unimpressive seventh-round victory against Michael Sprott in Bethnal Green.

Harrison, who will announce plans for his fourth pro fight within the next fortnight, said: "The bottom line is I'm comparing this Danny Williams with the man who claims he is about to leave the domestic scene because he is world class - and I'm not impressed."

The 28-year-old Brixton fighter should have walked all over a spirited Sprott, who just happens to be Harrison's sparring partner.

He said: "Once the rust has gone, I'll be able to perform like the world-class fighter I know I am. Still, a true champion is one that comes through when he's not at his best, and I did."
