Baggies bag Greening

14 April 2012

West Brom have completed the signing of Middlesbrough midfielder Jonathan Greening for an initial fee of £1.25million.

Greening, who joined Boro from Manchester United along with Mark Wilson after Steve McClaren had taken charge of the Teessiders, has signed a three-year deal.

The 25-year-old former England Under-21 international started his career with York City.

Greening made only four Premiership starts for United, but won a Champions League winners medal as a substitute in their 1999 success against Bayern Munich.

He joined Boro for £2million in August 2001 and after a mixed first season went on to win the club's player-of-the-year award in 2002/03.

In November 2002 he was even called up to an England training squad but was not selected by Sven-Goran Eriksson for the subsequent friendly against Australia.

Last season was a disappointment as he failed to hold down a regular place in McClaren's side and was not even on the bench for the Carling Cup triumph over Bolton, prompting Greening to consider leaving the Riverside.
